Practicing the Japanese Tea Ceremony in the west is hard but rewarding!

Frequently we encounter other tea practitioners, usually in the beginning of their journey, who are confused and overwhelmed on how to find the correct tools in Europe for their tea practice. So we decided to set out a way for them to find what they need within Europe.

Our story

Practicing the Japanese Tea Ceremony in the west is a hard but rewarding task. I first became aware of it when I saw a demonstration, by chance, while visiting a museum. The beauty and calmness of the procedure quickly captivated me. I was fascinated and intrigued by the tranquility of the host, and the silent emotional connection that seemed to occur between him and the guest.

It was 2 years after that first encounter that I made the first steps of my journey towards learning it. At first I was simply set on learning how to make tea, but my teacher opened my mind and my heart to the spirit of tea, and to the ocean of cultural and philosophical nuances associated with its practice. The way of the tea, Chado, can be fascinating, but also overwhelming, and sometimes confusing.

Advancing in Chado also means procuring different tools and accessing information about different Japanese cultural activities that are intertwined with it.   Finding the correct dogu and information about such endeavors is a tough, lengthy task. I have spent the last 7 years slowly acquiring enough knowledge and experience to help me procure tea instruments and kimonos that are appropriate to the Japanese tea ceremony and its different temaes.

We believe that our passion and values can be seen in each and every item that we have selected for the online shop. Moreover, we hope that it will help you advance further on your tea journey.

Okeiko Time's Mission Statement

Making essential tea dogu and kimonos available in Europe for tea practitioners.

Importing items from Japan has a tough impact on the environment in terms of CO2 emissions. At Okeiko Time we try to reduce that footprint by reselling vintage items that are either unused or in pristine condition.

According to the Circle Economy, by giving items a second life the consumer will save on average 73% of CO2, chemicals and water. Acquiring vintage items is thus a unique and affordable way to extend the life of unique pieces.

At Okeiko Time we invest in quality over quantity, therefore we try to provide our customers with the best quality vintage items that we can source at affordable prices.
