Okeiko Times' Practice
Honoring Tradition, Embracing Excellence
At Okeiko Time, our practice is rooted in a deep respect for the traditions and values of the Japanese tea ceremony.
Our selection process is meticulous and discerning. We source authentic, high-quality tea ceremony utensils directly from artisans or private collections. Even with the more humble items, that are not handcrafted, but produced in Japan we ensure that every item reflects the true spirit of the Japanese tea ceremony, allowing you to experience its authenticity.
Understanding the Japanese tea ceremony is as important as owning the utensils. Therefore we offer a range of articles designed to deepen your knowledge and appreciation of this cultural practice. We try to cover various aspects of the tea ceremony, from its history and philosophy to the techniques and etiquette involved.
Supporting Artisans and Sustainability
We believe in supporting the artisans who create our exquisite utensils. By collaborating directly with craftspeople and their communities, we ensure fair compensation and help preserve traditional methods of production. Our commitment to sustainability extends to the materials and processes used in crafting our products. We prioritize eco-friendly practices that honor the environment and the cultural heritage of the Japanese tea ceremony.
Bringing Tradition to Your Home
Our mission is to bring the beauty and tranquility of the Japanese tea ceremony to your home. We offer a range of products that cater to various levels of practice, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Whether you are looking for a complete tea set or a specific utensil, our store strives to provide everything you need to create an authentic and meaningful tea ceremony experience in the comfort of your own space.
Commitment to Circularity
At Okeiko Time, we strive to embrace the principles of circularity to minimize waste and maximize the lifecycle of our products. Our approach to circularity involves the following:
Durability and Longevity: The majority of our utensils are crafted to last a lifetime, reflecting the traditional Japanese emphasis on quality and longevity. We encourage customers to invest in pieces that will be cherished and used for generations.
Repair and Restoration: In the near future we will offer repair and restoration services to breathe new life into well-loved utensils. This practice not only preserves the historical and sentimental value of the items but also reduces the need for replacements. It is still possible to repair and restore the dogu by finding local capable artists near you, certain disciplines like kintsugi have became more widely available.
Recycling and Upcycling: We promote recycling and upcycling of materials whenever possible. Old or broken utensils can be repurposed into new forms, maintaining their connection to the tea ceremony tradition while contributing to a sustainable future. We offer recycling options for your old kimonos, or keepsake forms so you can always keep a part of your memories close by.
Eco-Friendly Packaging: Our commitment to circularity extends to our packaging, which is made from recyclable and biodegradable materials, minimizing environmental impact. Our current packaging is 90% sustainable as regretfully it is still necessary for us to package some items in non recyclable options to ensure its integrity during the shipping to our costumers.
